LEADERSHIP AGILITY

CRAFT Leadership

“In the new world, it is not the big fish which eats the small fish; it’s the fast fish which eats the slow fish.” Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum. Therefore, I think agility is a vital leadership quality today. How swiftly can you respond to the needs of the business and to the needs of your people/your stakeholders in order to prosper?

Agility is a fast, prompt reaction, and adaptability, with high level of proactiveness.

The question is how, in what way, and in what areas a leader can be agile?

AGILE THINKING AND THE ABILITY TO MOVE INTO ACTION PROMPTLY

  • How much can you foresee and predict the future, anticipate things? And what you do about it?
  • How much are you aware of the global megatrends? How knowledgeable are you about the market and industry trends? And what you do about these?
  • How open are you as a leader for new ideas, for finding new directions, and new solutions? How do you support these within your organisation?
  • To what extent are you forward-facing and future-focused as a leader?

QUICK DECISION MAKING

  • How quickly can you make a decision as a leader?
  • What rules and procedures can help you to make quick timely decisions? What slows you down?
  • How to eliminate bureaucracy which can get in the way?

CONTINUOUS EVALUATION OF EVENTS AND EVERYTHING

  • Being able to balance between risk aversion and risk taking, leaders need to adopt this new approach of continuous evaluation of events and everything in their day-to-day leadership practice in order to be able to respond quickly to the needs of the rapidly changing business in the VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world.

RESPOND SWIFTLY TO THE NEEDS OF THE MARKET

  • To achieve that my only question to you: How close are you to your clients?

SUSTAIN AGILITY AND MAINTAIN SPEED

  • The key here is simplicity, because both individuals and organisations have a tendency to overcomplicate things. The importance of simplifying matters, processes, way of thinking etc. can help leaders and organisation to sustain agility.
  • If you were to ask to simplify one thing in your leadership operation today what would that be? Name it and just do it!
